Should Government Tell You if You Can Spank Your Child?

It’s an old argument — to spank or not to spank children. Now California could theoretically be the first state to outlaw parental spanking. The proposal includes penalties of up to a year in jail and fines of as much as $1000 dollars. The Mountain View legislator who proposed it is instant national news. Fox News

Hi Priscilla,
I'll be the first to say no! A spanking is a firm pat just to let your child know who is in control. Child abuse is another story.

I think it's time government stayed out of our private lives.

Poor USA. We lock up more people than any other country in the world. We execute more people than any other industrialized country in the world, and it seems we are the last of the parental boxers, too. Progress is hard. Just when we're finally getting over those darned child labor laws they come up with something like this.

Whether or not one believes that spanking is a good and productive way to get results and disapline a child is not the issue. Whether the goverment should regulate it is and they should not! It is hard enough to disapline your child when CPS can be called on you for doing so. I know that there are bad parents who hurt there children and should be taken away but spanking is not child abuse when normal parents do it. The government has bigger issues to deal with than spanking so lets get back to that!

Smart mouths nrrd tender behinds! Sometimes that's how Mom brought the message home. Government should not decide.

Like Medical doctors prescribe medicines and treatments, parents know their children best and what discipline works for their children!

Yes, even it means giving your children sore bottoms.
